Overview
AI-Powered Cart Recovery helps you recover abandoned carts by showing a targeted onsite message when Wisepops predicts a visitor is likely to leave, rather than relying on traditional exit-intent triggers (cursor movement).
Unlike email recovery flows (which only reach logged-in visitors), this campaign can reach nearly all shoppers, including anonymous visitors.
This campaign is only available for Shopify websites.
Why it matters
Cart abandonment is one of ecommerce’s biggest missed revenue opportunities: 70% of carts never convert. Most recovery methods leave a lot of value on the table:
Email recovery only reaches visitors who are identified (often ~12–14%)
Exit-intent popups trigger too late and miss many true abandoners
Wisepops' AI-Powered Cart Recovery solves this by triggering earlier and only when it matters.
How to set it up
In the popup template gallery, in the Shopify category, select the AI-powered cart recovery template.
If you have a Shopify website but you do not see the Shopify category in the template gallery, please check that you completed all the Shopify installation steps.
2. This campaign is by default configured to trigger on the AI-powered Cart abandon signal. This trigger leverages a AI model trained on 10+ behavioral signals (how many pages were visited, which ones, location/device) to predict if visitors with items in their cart are likely to abandon their cart. More information on the AI is provided in a later section of this helpdoc.
3. Inside the popup editor, customize the template "Step 1" to your needs:
Upload your logo
Edit the offer (by default we suggest to offer a 10% offer to customers who complete their checkout)
3. If you offer a discount (recommended), select your discount code in the step 2.
4. Customize the product recommendations block in the last step. By default, we suggest products that are frequently bought together by other visitors based on cart items. Follow our product recommendations guide for more information on the other recommendation types and how to personalize them.
More information on the AI model
AI-Powered Cart Recovery is built on Wisebrain, Wisepops’ in-house machine learning engine. Instead of relying on exit-intent signals (like cursor movement), Wisebrain predicts cart abandonment based on real visitor behavior.
Data collection (behavioral signals)
Wisepops’ onsite tracker captures behavioral signals across customer sites and feeds them into a large-scale datalake containing billions of datapoints, including:
page views
scroll depth
time on site
cart activity
navigation patterns
session history
2. Model training (continuous learning)
Wisebrain uses collaborative filtering models trained continuously on this data.
The model is regularly evaluated and optimized, with a focus on improving:
accuracy
recall
Over time, it learns what “about to abandon” looks like across different verticals and visitor types.
3. Real-time prediction (sub-200ms latency)
While a visitor browses your site, Wisebrain scores the session in real time using 10+ behavioral signals.
When the visitor’s bounce probability becomes high, the cart recovery campaign can be triggered automatically — before the visitor moves to close the tab.
