Formats and availability

You can integrate Wisepops product recommendations in all our onsite formats. Web push notifications are not covered currently.

How to create a product recommendation Popup or Embed

  • Recommended: You can use templates that have been created especially for Product Recommendations campaigns. We made sure to configure the templates targeting so that they are compatible with the targeting requirements.

  • If you want to start from scratch, Product Recommendations are available as a block in the popup editor and can be integrated into any of your campaigns.

You can customize all the elements from the product recommendations blocks (text, CTA, image size). In order to control the size of the images, you can customize:

  • The images' height: click on the product recommendation block, then select "Image" in the top bar, and set the desired height.

  • The images' width is automatically determined based on the width available in the campaign. You can change the popup width by selecting "Design" in the left menu, then size in the top bar, then adjusting the width.

  • If each product image has less than 100 pixels in width available, then the product images will automatically switch to a vertical stacking instead of horizontal.

For embeds, you cannot control the width in the editor. Embeds will automatically take all the width available in the website placement you assign to them (see how to create embeds). The Wisepops editor and preview do not reflect the actual embed's width. Contact support@wisepops.com if you struggle to integrate embeds onto your website.

  • Make sure that you use targeting options in Display Rules that are compatible with the product recommendation strategy. If the campaign is supposed to appear while no product recommendation is available, then the campaign will not display at all.

More details on how our AI works

Except Best Sellers, our algorithms utilize collaborative item filtering that matches the visitor with other past similar visitor journeys. In the future, we will add other types of algorithms that consider product characteristics. For now our algorithms utilize the following signals:

  • Engagement signals

    • Add to carts

    • Past purchases

    • Number of repeat visits to product pages

    • Interaction depth (clicks, scrolls, etc.)

    • Recency of visits

  • Product signals

    • Historical revenue performance

    • Stock levels

    • Product freshness

Our algorithm continuously learns and adjusts recommendations based on these signals, ensuring visitors see products they're most likely to purchase.

Popups/embeds not displaying if not enough product recommendations are available

The way our algorithm currently works is that it returns the 1000 best product recommendations based on your selected recommendation strategy. Then it will take your exclusion/inclusion rules and out-of-stock. The popup/embed will only display if there are enough product recommendations available to populate your campaign based on your configured number of product recommendations to display.

For example, if your campaign is configured to display 4 products, but only 2 valid recommendations remain after filtering, the campaign will not display.

This situation can occur in several cases:

  • At the beginning of a trial, while Wisepops is still learning from your store data

  • When visitors have not generated enough behavioral signals yet

  • When targeting rules, exclusions, or stock limitations reduce the number of eligible products

Fallback to Shopify recommendations

To prevent campaigns from not displaying in these situations, you can enable a fallback to Shopify product recommendations. When this option is enabled, your popup or embed will still display even if Wisepops recommendations are not available. In that case, Shopify’s default product recommendations will be used temporarily. Once Wisepops recommendations become available, they will automatically replace the Shopify recommendations.

To enable this option:

  1. Select the Product Recommendation block in the editor

  2. Enable “Fallback to Shopify recommendations when Wisepops product recommendations are not available”

Revenue tracking

We use strict attribution to measure real impact:

  • Revenue is only attributed when customers purchase products they've clicked in the wishlist

  • Attribution window matches your account settings

  • Detailed analytics show engagement and conversion metrics
