Troubleshooting push notifications

Updated over a week ago

Having trouble with your push notifications? No worries! We've got you covered. This guide will help you pinpoint and solve common issues. Let's dive in!

Before we start:

Make sure you've set up Wisepops push notifications on your site using our handy guide. To test it out, try subscribing to your own push notifications and send yourself a test message. If you don't see the notification, let's figure out why!

Common issues and fixes

1. Service worker is not installed

Make sure you followed the setup here then in your browser developer tools you should see the service worker activated and running.

2. Device compatibility

Push notifications work on:

• Mac and Windows laptops

• Android smartphones

Heads up: They don't work on iOS devices. Sorry, iPhone users!

3. Browser prompt acceptance

After opting in through Wisepops, you'll see a browser prompt. Make sure to accept it!

Pro tip: Check if it worked by clicking the bell/lock icon next to your URL bar.

4. Incognito mode blues

Push notifications and incognito mode don't mix. Use a regular browser window instead.

5. Device settings check

Your device needs to allow push notifications. Here's how to check:

Android:

1. Open Settings > Apps

2. Find and tap Chrome

3. Hit Notifications and switch on "Show notifications"

Windows:

1. Go to Settings > Notifications and actions

2. Make sure "Banners, Sounds" is on for Google Chrome

Mac:

1. Open System Preferences > Notifications

2. Find Google Chrome and toggle on "Allow Notifications"

6. "Do Not Disturb" and "Focus Mode"

These handy features might be blocking your notifications. Here's how to check:

Mac:

• System Preferences > Notifications > Do Not Disturb

• See if it's on and for how long

Windows:

• Settings > Focus Assist

• Check if it's switched on
