Step by step tutorial

  1. Log in to your Wisepops account and click the "New campaign" button to create a new campaign.

  2. Use the Campaign Assistant to save time and quickly create a cart recovery campaign

  3. Edit the campaign design to match the look and feel of your website.

  4. Display your own coupon code or other incentives in the popup.

  5. Go to the Display Rules section

  6. From the Trigger tab, choose the On Exit option to ensure the popup displays when the visitor is about to leave.

  1. Navigate to the "Advanced" section, select Shopify.

  2. Select the property "cart.item_count" from the dropdown and add the following rule: cart.item_count is greater than 0

This will ensure that the popup only displays when the visitor has added an item to their cart.

  1. (Optional) If you only want to display the popup on the cart page, you can use page targeting.

Limiting the display of the cart recovery campaign to the checkout page will reduce potential overlap with other campaigns as we don't allow more than 1 popup display per page to preserve user experience.

  1. Save and publish your cart recovery campaign.

Best practices

  1. Use a clear and concise message: The message on the popup should be brief and clear, letting the user know that they have left something in their cart and what the next steps are to complete the purchase. Be sure to use language that encourages urgency, such as "Don't miss out" or "Limited time offer."

  2. Make it an attractive offer: Offer an incentive like a discount, free shipping or gift with purchase to motivate the user to complete the purchase. The value of the incentive should be enticing enough to entice the user to complete their purchase.

  3. Add a countdown timer: Countdown timers create urgency and convey a sense of exclusivity, encouraging users to take immediate action. By adding a countdown timer to your cart recovery popup, you can reinforce the limited-time nature of your offer and create a sense of urgency to motivate users to complete their purchase before the time expires. Wisepops offers a countdown timer feature that you can easily add to your popup.

  4. Keep it simple: Keep the user flow from the popup simple and easy to complete to avoid losing the user's engagement. Fewer form fields, a clear call-to-action (eg: apply discount to the cart), and a simple checkout process make the purchase process more appealing.

  5. Test and optimize: Continually test the message, timing, and offer of the popup to see what works best for your audience. The optimization process will help you improve the results of your cart abandonment popups over time.

By following these steps and best practices, you can create an effective cart recovery campaign that helps you recover sales and increase conversions.
