Troubleshooting push notifications

Dev Updated by Dev

With Wisepops push notifications, you can collect subscribers then send them push notifications. In this article, we assume that you have configured Wisepops push notifications on your website based on our helpdoc. You can test whether it is working by subscribing to your push notifications on your website like a visitor would do - then publishing a test push notification. If you are not able to see a push notification on your device, below is a list of reasons to troubleshoot first. If you already checked for all these reasons, please contact our support.

1. Testing on a device that accepts push notifications

Push notifications are compatible with Mac and Windows laptops as well as with Android smartphones. There are not compatible with iOS smartphones. In other words you cannot reach Mobile iOS visitors with push notifications.

2. Making sure that you accepted the browser prompt

After opting in push notification inside Wisepops' notification feed, you need to confirm your subscription with the browser prompt.

After accepting, and depending on your browser, you can confirm that your request has been accepted by clicking on the bell/lock on the left of the url bar.

3. Testing on a non-incognito browser

Push notifications do not work in incognito mode.

4. Verifying that push notifications are enabled by your device

Push Notifications need to be enabled by your laptop or mobile OS.

Android

1. Go to "Settings" and click on "Apps"

2. From the app list, click on "Chrome"

3. Click on "Notifications" and switch on "Show notifications".

Windows

1. Go to "Settings" and click on "Notifications and actions"

2. Ensure that "Banners, Sounds" is toggled on for "Google Chrome"

Mac

1. Open "System Preferences" and click on "Notifications"

2. Click on "Google Chrome" and ensure the toggle is on for "Allow Notifications from Google Chrome".

5. Check for "Do Not Disturb" or "Focus Mode" options

Another reason why you might not be receiving is if you have activated "Do Not Disturb" or "Focus Mode" on your device.

On Mac, open "System Preferences", click on "Notifications", and click on "Do Not Disturb". You can see if this setting is turned on and how long do not disturb is enabled.

On Windows, go to "Focus Assist" from "Settings" and check if you have switched it on.
