Use Distinct Websites for Staging and Production

Lisa Fockens Updated by Lisa Fockens

With your Wisepops account, you have the flexibility to set up multiple websites. This feature can be leveraged by creating two dedicated websites for your staging and production environments.

By doing so, you can enjoy the following benefits:

  • Effortlessly create popups on your staging site without worrying about filtering by URL to prevent them from appearing on production. Each environment has its own unique Wisepops setup code, ensuring complete isolation.
  • Easily duplicate the popup from your staging to your production environment when you're ready to go live. This process is simple and only requires a few clicks on the Wisepops interface.

Add more Websites on Wisepops

Let’s assume you already have Wisepops running on your production. On the websites management page, create a new website for your staging environment.

  1. Log in to your Wisepops Dashboard
  2. Head over to your settings > websites
  3. Click on Add website
  1. Type your staging website domain, and press "Add website"
  1. Install Wisepops tracking code on your website. It will be different than the one used for the production site. Install this new setup code on your staging environment.
Unsure how to install Wisepops on your website? You can refer to this documentation: ➕ Add Wisepops to your Website

If you previously installed the production setup code on your staging, make sure to remove it.

From here, you can test campaigns on your staging website, and they won't appear on your production.

Duplicating Popups from Staging to Production

Once your test campaign is validated, you will want to enable it in your production environment.

This is quickly done using the following steps:

  1. Start by navigating to your staging dashboard. Here, locate the campaign you wish to duplicate and click on the "..." button next to it.
  2. This action will reveal a dropdown list with more options. Select "Duplicate" from this list.
  1. A new window will appear asking you to choose the destination website for your duplicated popup. Select your production website from the dropdown list and then click on the "Duplicate" button.
  1. The duplicated campaign will be disabled. Go to your production dashboard, and turn it on.
